Please, I need a clear explanation what is an absorption, emission line and continuous spectrum.?

Question: I tried to read in wikipedia but I have no idea what does that gas and source of photons have to do with them. I need your explanation because tomorrow I will have a test and I am hopeless in physics....

Answer: CONTINUOUS SPECTRUM - a range of colors in some spectrum that are contiguous (..have no missing colors..) ABSORPTION-LINE SPECTRUM - if some colors are missing in the continuous spectrum made of some object, like a star, it means that these missing colors have been absorbed (..blocked..) by the atoms in some relatively cool gas of the star EMISSION SPECTRUM - essentially just the opposite of an absorption-line spectrum. Instead of missing colors, certain colors appear brighter than others across the spectrum
